Brookmont began work on the Ava Project Pilot in Clondalkin early in September. Founder, Michelle Moore believes there is another way for older homeowners to stay in the family home without the need to downsize or move away from their neighbours and existing community.
The idea behind the scheme is that the home is renovated to facilitate the homeowner by future proofing their home to their ageing needs while creating a rental capacity within the home. The works carried out include energy upgrades, accessible living downstairs and a new kitchen/living space upstairs for the renter. The homeowner has a new income stream as well as increased security helping ward off isolation and loneliness. It also goes a little way towards alleviating the current housing crisis by increasing the availability of one-bedroom rental units.
